Overview
The week began with the evaluation of both the unit and the stakeholders’ meeting.
Tremendous progress was made with regard to the compilation of the Management Plans as the resource team began assessing them for content, layout, as well as semantics.
Course Objectives
The course objective under this unit was to enable participants identify key issues emerging from gathering inter- and intra site data. This would enable the participants to determine the significant values associated with the sites.
As strategies in meeting these objectives, the resource people for the week gave various presentations. Sebastien Moriset presented Preventive Conservation, Dennis Haambote and Ashton Sinamai, the Statements of Significance, Authenticity and Integrity, Bako Rakotomamonjy, the Analysis of the Site (SWOT) and Oluremi Adedayo, the Guiding Principles. There were also discussions on various aspects of these topics.
One more field trip was necessary to enable the participants look at their sites more wholistically and also as an opportunity to deliver to the stakeholders, their letters of invitation to the meeting organized for Saturday 5th September 2009.
The 3rd and final stakeholder meeting was held at the end of the week and it involved participants presenting the results of their SWOT analysis. The stakeholders were divided into three groups: Pate, Siyu and women. The women were grouped together irrespective of their origins as it was felt that they needed to be met away from the men if they were to participate effectively. The groups deliberated on the key issues affecting their group as identified by the SWOT analysis.
Dr Abungu facilitated the meeting.
