2nd periodic reporting cycle for Africa of the World Heritage Centre

CHDA Ms Deirdre Prins-Solani at the launch event attended by 100s of school children from across Dakar, including the Mariam Ba School for Girls on Goree Island.The Director of CHDA, Ms Deirdre Prins-Solani participated in the launch and workshop session for the 2nd periodic reporting cycle for Africa of the World Heritage Centre in Dakar, Senegal 20-22 January 2010. Under the leadership of Francesco Banderin and Chief of the Africa Unit, Lazare Eloundou – the periodic reporting from Africa has adopted a unique and inclusive process.

The expertise in the coordination of the process has been awarded to an Africa Coordinator, past WHC member for Kenya and international heritage specialist, Dr George Abungu. Focal points within countries and mentors within sub regions of the continent are tasked to support site managers in the completion of the on line questionnaire. This team, together with the World Heritage Centre, the WHC Advisory Bodies, universities and the two African regional training institutions CHDA and EPA, shall be responsible for the synthesis and analysis of the data which emerges from the reports. The program strategy to be based on these results and to address the continent’s needs with respect to World Heritage shall be presented at the 2011 meeting of the World Heritage Committee.CHDA Ms Deirdre Prins-Solani with Directors of heritage institutions from Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Congo, Ghana
