CHDA enters into multiple partnership to enhance capacity to preserve cultural diversity

Project Title: En-compass - an international diamond of cultural dissemination, capacity building with countries from the North, East, South and West

Geographical location of the action: Newcastle-upon-Tyne (United Kingdom); Haikou, Hainan Province (People’s Republic of China); Mombasa (Kenya); and, Georgetown (Guyana)

Objectives of the action (max 3 lines):
  1. Increase the capacity of heritage practitioners in China, Kenya and Guyana; 
  2. Identify, promote and safeguard cultural heritage with specific focus on indigenous and minority groups in these territories; and,
  3. Increase the access of these local groups  to different forms of  heritage.

Expected results (max 4 lines):

  1. Greater awareness of the threats to indigenous and minority cultural heritage;
  2. A database of at risk heritage resources;
  3. Increased access to heritage information and products
  4. Increased expertise in protection, management and interpretation of heritage; and,
  5. Well-trained students to develop in-country capacity-building to support preservation of tangible and intangible heritage.

Target group(s):

  1. Ethnic minority groups in China, primarily the Li Miao in Hainan Province;
  2. Indigenous African peoples in Kenya and Anglophone Africa; and,
  3. Amerindian communities in Guyana, especially the Makushi.

Final Beneficiaries:

  1. The arts, music, heritage and museum sectors in the: North of England and the UK; Hainan Province and China; Kenya and Anglophone Africa; and, Guyana; and,
  2. Society at large in the UK, China, Kenya and Anglophone Africa, and, Guyana.
