PMDA desires to contribute to strengthening museum—community ties through the strengthening of museums’ contributions towards the development of their local community. In this regard PMDA offers workshops and meetings for heritage professionals to look at the development of programmes that take into consideration the needs and characteristics of their communities. In particular, PMDA encourages museums and other cultural institutions to consider the needs of African children.

 Children’s Workshop
“Children and Museums for a Better World” PMDA is currently developing a five-year strategic programme that will provide guidance and ideas for children’s programming in sub-Saharan African museums. It will indicate the ways that museums and heritage institutions can meet the special educational and recreational needs of children. The programme is the result of a formulation workshop held by PMDA in November 2001. It will be implemented by PMDA, individual museums, and other partners between 2003 and 2008.
