PMDA provides advice and information to heritage institutions and often offers technical assistance of equipment or small grants to support heritage institutions’ development efforts.

In an effort to strengthen communication and exchange of information among the network of museum professionals, PMDA, thanks to support from UNESCO, was able to offer a few small grants to museums served by PMDA to enable selected institutions to acquire computer equipment and software for setting up and/or improving online communication.
15 Applications were received from 6 countries and the following were successful:
- National Museums of Kenya, Krapf Memorial Museum, Rabai, Kenya
- King Sobhuza 11 Memorial Park, National Museum of Swaziland, Lobamba, Swaziland
- National Natural History Museum, Arusha, Tanzania
- The National Museum Board of Zambia, Board Secretariat, Lusaka, Zambia
- Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
